Learning about Kiwi

Shirley from Kiwi North is visiting Hurupaki School this week to educate us about Kiwi, due to the upcoming release of Kiwi in our local Pukenui Forest.

She showed us a stoat and talked about how dangerous they are for kiwi.

Kiwi have a very strong smell.  She demonstrated what dogs can do to our kiwi if they are left to wander unrestrained through the bush.

The safest thing for kiwi is to keep our dogs on a lead.

She showed us some of the traps we might come across when we walk in the Pukenui Forest and reminded us to keep away from them to keep ourselves safe.

Q-Bear comes to visit

We found a special present in our class after we did our tour of the school this morning!

We all tried to guess what it was!

We were very excited to see that it was Q-Bear!

Mrs Barber read the letter that was in the parcel.

Q-Bear told us that he has come to visit and spend some time with the children in Pod 7.

We are looking forward to having him in our classroom this year!  Later today we are going to write to Q-Bear and tell him all about ourselves.
